I understand why you like that photo, Grant. One of your best, IMO.

Lot's of very good things here.

1) Composition: superb. Despite it's small size and position quite low in the frame, the boat is clearly the COI. It is set off nicely against the darkest trees and the blue-gray water, with the horizontal lines of the near shore and in the water leading the eye to it. Other whitish lines in the water add interest. And that low islet is a nice subtle but key component.

2) TheĀ  7 planes accentuate the sense of depth and distance. The water is first, and it's complemented by that nicely colored spit of brown. Then the boat, of course. The darkest trees are appropriately detailed. Next are the two planes of more distant trees, each lighter and less detailed. The hills or mountains are interestingly shaped, and the lighter misty lower part is lovely. Finally comes the sky which adds interest without being distracting, and also a subtle contrasting yellowish color.

3) I love the values in the photo; especially how you wisely placed the lightest (the boat) against the darkest.

4) An excellent example of aerial perspective, the well known phenomenon of how more distant areas become cooler and less intense in color.

Very impressive work, Grant.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Dave,
Wow you took a whole lot of time to evaluate my image. Funny, when I tripped the shutter I moved the camera
around, took a deep breath, made sure the horizon was level, and squeezed the button. I took very little time. I must say
I did not think it through. I just took it when it felt right...!.
So I thank you!
Orton processing changes it. Could be better or worse and perhaps not needed.

I believe that the Orton processing has made a completely satisfying image.
Here's some relatives from Ironbark, enjoying the Store Crreek waterfall.

Some nice and fun additions, folks.

Here's one from6 years ago.

Although there is just one easily noticeable water drop, I think it is in such a good location that it is clearly the COI.

I was very pleased with this image 6 years ago, and I remain happy with it today.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Strong and intense early light struck this leaf (of an avocado I think) that had fallen to the sidewalk, created some long and strong shadows, and caused the colors to become especially vibrant...

I was impressed by the green on blue not to mention the strong light and shadows and of course the sharpness and compositiional factors. Smile

here's a single drop.
