Nat, what a great bunch of leafy goodness. Surprisingly, lettuce is quite cold hardy and needs less heat for seed germination. I have a few varieties in the greenhouse plus some arugula. I'll plant more soon. Still waiting for my second batch of peppers to sprout on my heat matts and lamp in the garage heated room. Tomatoes mostly in pint pots waiting for warmer weather and sunshine which is predicted next week. Corned beef in the pot. I should go and seek a Guinness now.

WOW, Natalie, good-looking lettuce. Does growing it like that keep the worms, slugs, etc, from eating the leaves?
I never liked stuffed cabbage as a youth, but am liking it more as I get older. I live around a lot of polish folks and they call them Gołąbkis. I am sure they taste the same. I learned that a great way to make them is to use Campbell's Tomato Soup for the sauce. And they were right. It is delicious, creamy and easy to make.

Lorell, I bought some food grade totes, 275 gallon, and cut them in half.....filled with a great topsoil/compost mix I can buy by the tractor scoop....it was good stuff!! It's my version of a raised bed. Easy to work, no bending, and yes, I did not see any slugs or bugs in there except for some gnats that crawled in to escape the cold, but did not eat lettuce. We ate a lot of great salads! Golabkis and Holubtsi, same word, Polish or Ukrainian......my friend stuffs hers with mostly meat....like a meatloaf in there with a tiny bit of rice....I stuff mine with a mixture I cook up on the stove: lots of cooked rice, fried hamburger, fried onions and peppers ....my mom, way back when, used to use her home made tomato sauce, but in later years used V-8 doctored with spices and brown sugar. That's the flavor I like now, so that's how I make mine...Mom's friend used to mix cooked rice/onions/raw hamberger to stuff hers. Mom always cooked the burger first. To each his own, I guess.....Now I want some........the hardest part is getting some good cabbage leaves....usually fix in late fall when fresh cabbage is available.....

Nice to see the thread is alive. Hope you won't tire of seeing our Asian dishes.
We certainly don't tire making or eating them.
BTW Natalie, Steve is right that is a work of art. Mine is just a mess of good food.

Good stuff, Grant. A very good Asian and mostly Vietnamese place is in our county near the ocean. It's called the Beach Wok. They do wonders and have the best calamari and other noodle and curry dishes. Just a small man and wife team. I'm due for a visit soon.
My daughter dropped by and said she's making stuffed cabbage today. A first for her.
Hi Nat & Lorell.

Steve, my daughter has made a friend of a Japanese couple. They came to US to learn how to plant a Japanese style garden and in a couple years open a small restaurant, man and wife team!! She is a Chef.....my daughter is going to let her plant a small garden here on our farm.....they are both excited and you should hear them talking and planning...LOL.  When you go to the Beach Wok, take some photos and email them to me. She may get some ideas on how to set up a small restaurant....

Not hard to do. With your skills should not be difficult for you.
Raw shrimp is mostly blue. Turns orange when done. Quit cooking as it changes colour.

Marinate for up to 1 hour. If using lemon or lime keep the marinating time down to 10 minutes as Ciitrus will cook shrimp making them mushy. Cook with shell on. Keeps them juicy.

I was just a casual observer today while my wife made a batch of bagels. The granddaughters helped.

Grant, the only Asian food I fix is Sweet and Sour Shrimp.....with pineapple, sweet peppers, onions!  We love it....
Steve, those bagels look great! Little bit of cream cheese and smoked salmon would be great!  Does your wife ever make them with huckleberries?
My daughter made me breakfast today.....oh, my, so good. Yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms, asparagus, chives with eggs and sliced cherry tomatoes!!  I loved it!!!
