RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - damar - 10-20-2021 This was done with a dip pen (G nib) and Speedball ink. Freehand, no drafting tools. This is in the style of "urban sketching". One of the characteristics could be described as "deliberate wonky line work" I'm trying to gain some skill in quick rendering so I'll be able to draw onsite. I haven't decided if I'm going to give it a watercolor wash or not. It's drawn in a mixed media spiral bound and and can't take a lot of watercolor. RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - Don - 10-20-2021 Well done Patty. I think the wonky lines are a necessity. I know when I have viewed YT videos about line or line and wash the artist always talks about not trying to get the lines too straight. I need to practice my drawing as well - I'm sorely behind on any artwork other than photography. RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - damar - 10-20-2021 Thank you Don, I am years behind in art work! Just trying to make time for it now. Even if its just 10-20 minutes per day, it can make a huge difference. That's what is great about drawing: it doesn't require set up time and clean up time as much as paints. And you can take it with you. I put together a small pencil case with a general purpose pencil, palm size sketch pad and a black ink pen to take with me in case I sit out in the vehicle waiting for DH (like at auto parts store or something). I can always add watercolor pencil of a small pan of WC paint and a water brush. I am motivated by all the old buildings and towns that we have visited. I am not keen on working from photos but it's the best right now because I often sketch in the evenings. In this sketch, I feel it's lacking a medium tonal value in x-hatching, but will do some practice on that. I'm going to leave this as is. I'm anxious to finish this sketchbook and get a real Moleskine or Hahnemuhle sketchbook that is more accepting of watercolor. Thanks for looking! RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - Don - 10-20-2021 A watercolor I did in a class I took several years ago.
RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - Rich - 10-20-2021 This is in the style of "urban sketching". One of the characteristics could be described as "deliberate wonky line work" Well Patty, I am glad I finally learned a name for my style of painting. I like your sketch! It deserves a wash! WoW Don, well done! You have a handle on watercolor! Nice background. I am putting the finishing touches on a painting I did for my grandson from his photo. Will post tomorrow. RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - damar - 10-20-2021 Don, that is a really nice watercolor!!! I love the background as much as the heron. It looks like a naturalists rendering. Imagine filling a small sketchbook with those bird encounters you have and the beautiful nature things you often shoot with a macro lens. Motivated??? Rich I have been checking in here for your upcoming post! I happen to love your style of painting! Art should look like art. We have cameras for reality and paints for art! Embrace the wonky! I have and its very liberating. RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - Rich - 10-21-2021 My Grandson wanted me to paint this scene from his photo in Wyoming. RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - damar - 10-21-2021 THAT is beautiful, Rich! I love the colors and textures. Very fine details well executed. He is going to love it! Thanks for sharing with us! RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - Rich - 10-21-2021 Thanks Patty! I am not real happy with the left tree. I put in too many branches. Watercolor is hard to correct. I may cover the darks up with white on a couple and see if that helps my view of it. Otherwise I like it. I enjoy painting mountains and trees. RE: Post your other non-phtographic art here. - damar - 10-21-2021 If you just finished it, give it a day or so and you may come to see the tree as a non issue. I didn't look at it and even think it had too many branches. But you did handle them quite well! And I'm sure you can correct with skill. (white gouache is your friend!) I can always find a nit about anything I create, and especially with photography, I have learned to just leave it and move on! I can make things worse with an expert touch! The mountains look distant and beautiful! |
