Hi Folks

We are on a road trip at the moment. I happen to have a strong internet connection today, so will pass on an image. This was photographed and edited on Tues/Wed. We were staying at the Karoo National Park, and this was part of the view from our chalet.

The weather was rather clouded on Tuesday when we got there. Looking at the scene, I decided that it would make a good early morning shot. However, that evening the sun sneaked out, and I photographed 88 shots over the one and a half hours until sunset. Although I tried a similar approach on two mornings, those shots will probably never work due to the shadows of the mountains to the left of the scene.

I edited this image on my laptop, without any external screen. This is a bit of a first for me, normally I work with all my PS tools on the laptop, but the image on a larger monitor. I chose 10 of the 88 images for various attributes. These I then combined to produce the image as shown here. There are still a number of minor corrections to be made, and I will probably do some overall lighting adjustments before I'm finished.

Regards - Peter

I cannot imagine anything in this glorious landscape that would need changing. This is so beautiful. It is 10 for me. I love the beautiful sky and the lighting on the plant growth !in the foreground. Thanks for the the beautiful start to our daily. By the way, I replied to your post from your response in the Jan 31st thread.

I also left comments to all the great stuff shared in yesterday’s daily.

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend.

Peter,
Quite magical. And a lot of work went into this. Everything from the tripod to choosing the 10, to combining. Your images always push the envelope....

I just got back from a nice 2-mile walk to the city pier and back.  I finally got the chance to try out my new ND filter.  I managed to soften the water a bit and compared to the photo I took without the ND filter, it is an improvement.  The water was quite choppy and was rather distracting without the ND filter.  I sort of stuck on using the HDR effect, I hope that I am not overusing it.

This photo is a combination of two.  The water is one taken with the ND filter, the sky was no ND filter.

This is the city pier on Anna Marie Island.  They use to have a great restaurant that we use to frequent, then a hurricane wiped away the entire building and much of the pier.  This is the newly rebuilt building but the city has made it very difficult (politically) for a restaurant to return.  The latest is that they want to put an educational type facility for children to learn about the ocean and all of its inhabitants. It appears to be a slow process because the original plans of putting several 15,000-gallon aquariums in the facility were deemed too heavy for that pier to handle. So, back to the drawing board, it goes.  And so, we continue to wait to see what will happen.  In the meantime, we are missing one of our favorite restaurants.

I will join your landscape, Peter, with my seascape.

WoW Pete! Absolutely amazing! Beautiful country! Lighting is awesome! All done on a laptop too!

Hi Grant!

Lorell, a beautiful combination of ND filter and regular. I like the ND filter effect of softening the water. Very soothing image.

Which bunk would you like to have? On top of a torpedo, below a torpedo or next to a torpedo?

Another winner, Peter. Wonderful, clearly professional quality image, as always.

Lorell, a good eye + excellent processing = a great image.

BTW, we had a similar situation with the Huntington Beach Pier. For years Ruby's diner sat at the end of the pier. After pier damage some years ago, Ruby's was unable to continue there.

Neat photo rich. I don't think I'd want either bunk.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Lorell,
Another tool for your bag of tricks. I just woke up from a dream where I was in the darkroom colour dodging and burning an image. That was another lifetime. It is hard to imagine how much has changed in image making in one short lifetime. We used to have to do more of it in camera, but if Ansel Adams were alive today I would bet he would use any device available to make an image. So go girl. Soon you won't even have to think about it. It will come as naturally as breathing. And if you choose to take make a duplicate layer to change colour balance or to further soften part of an image you will be able to do that too. Don't take this the wrong way. Your intentional longer exposure  to blur the ocean works well and improves the image. Like cooking one should always season to taste. BTW using 2 polarizers one can get even more density adjustment. They have to be of a good quality though or they won't be Neutral Density
Rich,
Like Dave said no torpedo bunks for me either! I wonder if you dream about those experiences?
