Don, your yellow door photo breaks some compositional taboos (never locate the COI in the middle, seek diagonals to add energy, etc.) yet it absolutely succeeds! Terrific color palette, exposure and values are top-notch, the curves of the arch and its details add variety and complement all the straight lines and shapes.

It takes a master to break the "rules" and make a winning photo.

Rich, I think I've been on that freeway - many years ago when my daughter was playing club soccer, there was a big tournament in Ventura every year. Nicely captured, which is hard to do shooting through the windows of a bus.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Michael, that looks like an upside down duck! LOL!!

Actually, the National Botanic Gardens article I copied that from was most probably written by my daughter, whom I taught as fathers do. Then I sent her to a university to learn more.

There was another yellow subject earlier and it too was also popular.

A potted cactus that flowered nicely in our backyard around 2011...

Don, I agree with what Dave said, excellent capture! Yellow gets your attention, especially on a door! What helps this a lot is the iron work on either side. It leads your eye into the photo and gives depth. Cover that up with your hands, makes a difference.  Photo looks flat then.

Thanks Dave, easy to get a photo from a bus window when you are on a freeway and traveling zero MPH. Busy time of day I guess!

Your flowering cactus is a beauty!

Thanks, Rich.

MFI, that's an especially lovely image.

The diagonal adds energy to a photo that doesn't even need that help. The dark background (you know how much I love bright flora against a dark background) does a great job of showcasing the yellow blossoms and small green leaves.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

All I remember about this photo is taking it with an old Sigma film camera years (decades) ago. It was a billboard that fell onto the street in Columbia.
