About time I posted another image.
We had a wonderful Christmas lunch prepared by the granddaughters on Sunday. Yesterday (Boxing Day) we went to some friends of my son-in-law for another amazing lunch. It was overcast, and I left my camera at home. It turned out that these folks stay in the country, and their neighbors live in a windmill. The sky cleared up just before sunset, so we walked down the road a bit to photograph the mill. I only had my smartphone, so that had to do. I know from experience that the quality of the smartphone pictures aren't up to standard, but what can you do.
Anyway, here is one of the shots taken with the phone and processed in Photoshop last night. The details in the trees, particularly on the left side, are poor.
Peter,
You knew that when you left your camera at home, there would be a picturesque scene like this just waiting for you when you arrived at your friends. It was inevitable. But it appears that you managed to capture a beautifully composed and colored image. It is lovely. Thanks for starting our daily.
Good morning, Don and Peter.
Yesterday was THE BEST DAY! There were no Christmas cards to write, no phone calls to make, no desserts to bake and bring, no getting dressed up to go out in the cold and wintery mix, no snow to shovel, no big dinners to overeat and I turned the radio off so I wouldn't be irritated by looping Christmas music. Sorry to sound a bit humbug, but I am glad when it is over and I just really enjoyed yesterday with absolutely NOTHING hanging over my head, not even mistletoe! Who needs mistletoe anyway? Right?
This morning I enjoyed looking at yesterday's daily.
Natalie, your granddaughter has so much talent. The painting is so good. I wish I could have seen the tears in your eyes when you unwrapped it. She had to be so excited while she was painting it, wrapping it, and watching you open it. That is what giving something that you made to someone that you love or cherish is all about. The feeling doesn't get any better than that. Of course, she learned from the very best, Natalie, and it looks like she also inherited her artistic genes from you too. I love the style. It is truly amazing. What a special tribute to Daisy.
So, did anyone get any camera equipment from Santa this year?
I did. I got a second camera body, a duplicate of my Olympus E1 Markii that I bought in 2019. I wanted a second camera body and an identical model so that when I go on all the photo shoots with the club, I can easily flip from one camera to the other with different lenses on each body. I like changing things up from approach, to perspective, to composition, etc., When I have my zoom in my hand, I am wanting my macro, when I have my macro in my hand, I am wanting my fisheye, etc., Now I will be able to travel around with two lenses loaded. I also got a DUO Camera Strap that will distribute the weight evenly across my shoulders with absolutely NO support from my neck.
You are probably thinking, "why buy the same camera"? For three reasons, 1) I really love my camera and didn't think I needed anything with more bells and whistles and PIXELS, 2) the buttons and levers are in the same identical places on both cameras (the newer models changed things up drastically, and 3) the cost of a used Olympus M1 Markii was right.
So, yesterday, being the best day, I took my new camera for a test run. I needed a photo for MACRO MONDAY. I hit the right buttons and took a 9-image focus stacking series of shots and combined them in AFFINITY and got this. Topaz added the stylish vignette.
Here is the story behind the OFFICIAL MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FROM COMERICA PARK, Detroit, Michigan.
Official Baseball caught at a Detroit Tiger's game in Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan.
Well, it actually wasn't caught by anybody. You see, I was sitting in my seat in shallow left field when a foul ball came flying toward our section. I ducked and covered my head as the people around me raised their hands and mitts (yes, people bring baseball gloves to the ballpark, but not me) to catch the ball. We all heard the ball hit the concrete around us with a thud and then people started shouting, "where is it? do you see it? Who got the ball?" At that point, I looked down between the seat next to me and there it was! I picked it up and said, "I got it!"
It was a pretty big thrill and we talked about it the rest of the day in 1995.
At least in Australia and New Zealand but since we are all travelling on the same sphere in space, I daresay it has affected the same sunsets and sunrises all around the globe.
