Hi Folks

Here are a couple of images taken and edited in the past week. They are at the stage of "thinking about them". So any comments both for and against would be welcome.

With this one, I then thought it might be a good idea to turn it more "autumny" by inverting the A-channel in LAB colour, and masking back some of the original. That gave the following. At this stage, I'm not sure which I prefer?

Here's the other.

As mentioned, C&C definitely appreciated.

P.S. On the "Autumny" version I've just turned the car red (brighter, more saturated than before), which helps to balance out the red buildings a bit. Does improve the image!

Thanks for starting the Dail, Pete.

Both versions of your first example are beautiful; the high-key almost pastel treatment captures the airy feel of either a Spring or Autumn day, and the leading lines are a perfect example of how to use them for a solid composition. I understand why you wanted to try a more "autumny" version and you certainly succeeded. But I find myself missing the yellow-greens especially along the left bank of the stream. The leading lines identify the COI, as does the slightly sharper bit of detail of the distant bridge. I'm wondering if strengthening the COI very subtly, maybe with a small bit of increased value contrast and/or a very slight increase in saturation is worth trying.

Your second photo is great as is, but it also has many possibilities for artistic treatments. The first one that came to my mind would be to try a pen & ink layer along with a lightened vignette as in your first example, but maybe a bit wider to allow the pen & ink look to be more visible.

Just my thoughts of what I'd consider if the photos were mine - you are better at these artistic creations than I am.

Here's a shot from yesterday morning after I fixed myself a big plate of scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, and hot breakfast sausage ( I think a third brown or speckled eggshell would have improved the photo, but I didn't have any)...

You folks have yourselves a good day or evening.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Hey there, Peter and Dave.
Coming late to the party.
Peter, I like the more autumn look of the manipulated versions. In the green version, the shades of greens and the vibrance do not look as natural as in the autumn version.

Dave, That is great. I really like the HIGH KEY EFFECT. The cut marks in the cutting board makes for such a great textured background. Good one, Dave.

Thanks a lot for the comments Dave. On the canal/bridge image I agree with all of your observations. Obviously, I had already attempted to make the bridge more prominent; but you are right - it needs more emphasis. I'll have a go at turning it red and see how that looks. At this stage I'm still favouring the non-autumny version though.

On the second image, I had already applied a dark vignette, and had to seriously darken the greenish wall on the right because it was very brightly lit. So I'm not really keen to add a light vignette as suggested. I was a bit concerned about the autumn leaves floating in the foreground. They look a bit contrived, but that is how they actually looked, so I think I'm leaving them as-is.

Nice job on your egg-shell image. I was thinking of how effective the background texture is. It was only after Lorell's comment that I realized it is the cutting board. Well done.

regards - Pete
