Don,  Another great subject for B&W . Me thinks you made this from B&W film.

Oh dear, this thread has travelled so fast with such great images.  I better get to transforming some of my images into black and white for this great topic.

Michael, thanks for the awesome start.  With your skills, you will be good at everything. I like the shot of the downtown, it has great depth and contrast.
Don, good luck with the church image.  I REALLY like that composition. You just may have a winner.
Dave, I agree with Patty, the B&W version is equally as good and I seem to pay more attention to the details and natural design of the flower,
Patty, the store's interior looks perfect in black and white.  It totally suits the subject. I like the guitar in the background.
Grant, your steeple shot almost looks like it was shot with an IR camera. I really like the bison shot and the birds in flight.

Lorell, Your skill set has evolved.  You have become an exceptional photographer/image maker....
The young masked girls is  reminiscent of what a pro would have shot back in the B&W era.
Steve, Mickey likes it. And you can cook too!!

Hope you folks don't get mad at my monopolizing the thread.
Although this is a conversion I shot it with the intention on B&W.

Don is right - excellent images in this challenge.

I searched my archives for a photo to convert to grayscale.

This one was taken March 16 2005 but just now converted...

I'm pleased that this converted version retained some sense of the striking clarity in the scene that the original color image exhibited.

Sadly, all the water seen here is long gone.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

I'm about to make a print of this one for our camera club meeting tonight. The set subject is "Patterns in Nature".

C&C welcome.

B&W is all about contrast in the tones. When you get it right one can almost feel the colour. Like in Natalie's coke can, I can almost see red.
The can sitting beside the very white chicken is quite hilarious. The somber chicken Background is perfect....
Peter's high contrast stripes still hold shape. I am not sure about the mottled background. I want to see some more variation in the background.
Dave's landscape screams fall colours in a subtle way.

I have shown this Water Scape before in colour. Wanted to see how well it works in Grayscale.

Grant, thank you very much.  Your critique means a lot to me.  The composition of the sailboats definitely works in B&W especially with the bright white sails contributing to the contrast.

Natalie, You got a winner on your hands. Are you back in the chicken business?  Just kidding.  But that is really a cool shot and actually belongs on a wall of a country kitchen.

Steve,  Your REO Speedwagon's shadows also benefitted from the nice dark shadows.

Peter, Zebras are such photographic creatures, They move slowly, are full of contrasting fur, and like to stare at people.

Dave, A calming relaxing lake view with nice lights and darks in the reflection.

Here is a Black and White conversion I made to a colored photo I posted in the August 11th daily thread.  I prefer the B&W version.  I think it is more powerful and eye catching.  But you be the judge.
