The Beekeepers!!
My brother, his son, and his grandson have decided to become beekeepers. I recently bought an old hive (empty) online, and when a swarm landed on my property, by the pond, my brother and his helpers were able to capture them and move them into my hive. Was exciting!! I have not seen many honey bees in the last few years, so thought I would help the bee population and also, get some honey out of it in the deal. I am just the host......I won't be doing the maintenance. My father used to have 3 hives when I was a girl on the old farm.....and my brother's family really like honey!!  It's great on everything, really.

Thanks, Grant, Steve, Michael, Rich and Peter. This was the first time I have ever seen a swarm......and it landed on my property!! Doesn't get better than that!
Peter, that's just a feeder? Good job! Do you have or have had hives for honey? I have a feeder in the top box of the hive right now because there is no honey for them yet, but I am having a time filling it, I don't want to drown the bees, they are very eager for it!! I'll take a photo of it when I go down tonight to try to fill it.

This was so interesting. Several years ago, about 5-6, my brother's kids bought their father a hive and bee starter kit. My brother took a class and has been hooked ever since. He lives in Colorado Springs and now has two hives in his backyard. He gets honey galore and saves them in quart mason jars to give to his kids and friends. He loves sharing stories about his bees, his successes, and his problems. This is the first year that the bees made it through the winter. It gets real cold in his area and this year he wrapped the hives in insulation and a heater. He is so happy that the bees survived. It is very interesting and exciting that you actually get HONEY from the bees' hard work. And yes, we all need bees.

Peter, tell us more about your bees. Do you have a hive nearby?

I think I will post some photos that my brother sent me in Saturday's daily.

Fascinating info about the bees, and well illustrated with photos.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
