Thanks Grant; although my John Pike is still completely workable, I'll check out Cheap Joes.
Hi Lorell. I'd bet you're glad to not be dealing with the Michigan weather this week. Nice photo, as always.
Speaking of palettes and watercolor, I have settled on the pigments I'll start with: I recently added Cadmium Orange, which doesn't appear on the test page below. I started each pigment full strength and carries it over a black line to test opacity, then came another line where I tried to lift the full strength wash to assess staining, then a graduated wash with increasing water to check out light tints.
And while we're on the subject of watercolors, I invite folks to enjoy
the amazing art of Jean Haines. Jean was very active on the old (maybe 10 years ago) WetCanvas; then a mean-spirited member started trashing her and her work until she left for a happier place to share her work. One story about Jean: while she was still on WetCanvas she noticed a photo I took of our first Westie, Guinness, and she asked permission to paint from it. Of course I said yes and she posted her finished work; it was so good that I asked if I could use the JPG of her Guinness painting to make a card for my wife. I few weeks later I received a wonderful gift - Jean mailed me the original! At her current prices (and assuming my currency conversion math is close to accurate) this was a painting that she would typically sell for around $1000 US.
