Good day all.

I'll share two photos taken on Friday:

1) A great egret in one of the flood control channels (just before noon)...

2) Another yellow rose after the overnight rain (around 8:00 - 9:00 AM)...

Should be some good NFL games today, and I'm planning what to dine on. I've got a 2 pound pork roast thawing. I may try my hand at something approaching Char Siu Bao; that's steamed pork buns, and my Chinese in-laws introduced them to me long ago. But I may not be able to pull of the soft buns (they're kinda like a light dumpling; in that case I'll go with just the meat, accompanied by potato salad and another side that's TBD. I'll remove from the roast a 6 inch section that's around 3" x 3" - that will give me 10-12 small pieces when sliced after cooking. The rest of the roast will probably go into the slow-cooker for 8-10 hours sometime after midnight; add some carrots, celery, onions, maybe tomatoes, certainly some jalapenos, various spices, and anything else that sound interesting. Should be done in time for an early dinner tomorrow.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Good morning Dave and thanks for starting the day with a couple of nice images. I like the little bit of reflection for the egret. The background of the rose really makes it stand out.

It is 74F right now but will be dropping to near 40 by tonight, which means a good possibility of severe weather. Tomorrow the high will only reach near 50 and below freezing tomorrow night. So much more seasonal temps are on the way. Last night the forecast was for the rain to start very early this morning but I just checked the rain gauge and so far nothing. It is coming though.

DW and I were planning on going down to Jacksonville, Fla to visit family for a little get together for my mom's 94th birthday but have now decided to not risk it. I wonder if any of us will ever be able to come and go and travel as we wish.

Here is a morning shot from our last camping trip down in the Florida panhandle.

Dave, The rocks and shore line really add interest to the egret shot.

Another smiling rose to start the day. Good shadow detail!

Pork dish sounds interesting, good luck!

Don, good one. Another foggy photo with an air of mystery to it!

Grant, a crisp day with a little color, nice!

My Son and DIL coming for dinner today and to celebrate Christmas. Decided to have Lasagna, garlic bread and a Caesar salad. I won't be making the Lasagna from scratch. Going to try out a frozen one. Will see how that works out.

Hello, Don, Dave, Grant and Rich.
"January 2nd already! Heck, it seemed like we just started the New Year Yesterday."  That one is for you, Rich.   Wink

Thanks, Dave, I love the bright yellow rose. How cheerful is that?  The egret is nicely framed by the rocks and shoreline.  Good composition.

Don, The fog adds mystery and mood and is sometimes a challenge to incorporate.  But you did a good job.

Grant, I hope you can get out of those sub-zero temps.  That alone has to be adding a damper on dismal to things.  Who wants to get out of the comfort of their warm comfy homes?  You hang in there, friend. And keep taking photos of the colors that nature gives you.

Rich, Have fun today with your son and DIL. Just thinking about making Lasagna makes me tired.  Your menu sounds good though, What's for dessert?

We got enough snow to make it worthwhile to take a drive to the park.  I will go to the park with the paved parking lot though, because otherwise, I may get stuck in a rut of ice, snow, and slush.  Tomorrow the temps are supposed to drop severely and then I won't want to go.

So, I had to dig this one up from some fall shots.

Lorell, lovey colors on the leaves! Good lighting and focus!

Dinner went well, The store bough Lasagna was good but a little salty.
I would like to say Cannolis but we are not big on dessert. Just some ice cream and Christmas cookies from a bakery that were given to me.

Thanks for the nice comments folks.

Lovely image, Don.

Beautiful colors, Grant. The blue of the snow on the roofs in #1 really add a lot to the photo.

Lorell, great colors and shapes and values.

Hi Rich.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
