It kinda resembles the rings on a tripod that one tightens to lock extended legs in place. But I can't come up with a reason why there would be 6 of them.

There is not much I can tell you about this without giving it away. If used "for it's intended purpose" I see this once a year.....but I use it for something else......here is the only other view I can show you without giving it away......
