MFI, I have heard these fungi called Turkey Tails because with the banding it resembles that. I am always on the lookout for mushrooms or other fungi to photograph - one of my favorite subjects. Regarding the house, it is in the original location, it's just that the "museum" buildings grew up around it. I believe the church he attended was relocated to the museum grounds though.
I think you might be referring to the information "placard" that is in front of the barn, telling about it. The barn actually has some dried tobacco hanging inside.
