Happy weekend, folks.

More good cloud photos, MFI. Thanks for sharing them

For more than 5 years my wife has carefully nourished a blueberry plant in a large pot in our inner front yard. . It as grown well and looks quite healthy, but hasn't produced a single blueberry.

The wife recently nestled a tea rose in the pot, where it gets enough light finding it among the leaves of the blueberry plant surrounding and arching above it to produce tiny blossoms. Here is one, taken yesterday...

I plan to enjoy the 4 NFL playoff games this weekend, and as usual I've made my picks. (I don't bet on the games but since I'm just over 70% this year at picking the winners, maybe I should.

Today has Houston at KC, then Washington at Detroit. Tomorrow has LA Rams at Philadelphia and Baltimore at Buffalo. Unlike the games in all the previous weeks I am not expecting any upsets, and also unusually I think all 4 games will be by 10 or more points.

Houston at KC: Houston has a very good defense but a mediocre offense. The stats on KC's offense this year suggest it's no better than average. But I think they'll win easily because: 1) they're rested and healthy after a bye last week; 2) Coach Reid always puts together a good game plan and he's had that extra week to do so; and 3) even though Mahomes' stats have been down this year, I expect the Mahomes Magic to be on full display. I'm going with KC by at least 10 points.

Washington at Detroit: Washington has had a very good year. They have an excellent run offense and a decent pass offense, but their run defense is bad while Detroit's run offense is very good. So I expect Detroit to run the ball well in the first half, which will free up their passing in the second half. I'm picking the Lions by 14 points, more if they get a turnover or two.

Tomorrow features LA Rams at Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills.

Rams at Eagles: this could be a rout because Philly is simply a much better team in nearly every category. Philly has a great defense, the Rams offense is dangerous but it ranks 24 (out of 32) in running the ball, and 15 in passing, while the Eagles' defense ranks 10 against the run and 1 against the pass.

Baltimore at Buffalo: the odds makers favor Baltimore by just 3.5 points, but it won't be that close. Baltimore is #1 defending against both the run and the pass; compare that to Buffalo's offense: #9 running the ball and #9 when passing. Plus Buffalo's pass defense is a poor #24 while it's run offense is an average #15. Not even the talents of Buffalo QB Josh Allen will be able to keep it close. I pick Baltimore by at least 14 points, and that's only because Buffalo will probably get 7 or more points from turnovers.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
