Good morning. We are off this morning to take our travel trailer back to the dealer to get a new "fireplace" and recliner installed - replacements for the ones there. It is 1.5 hours to get there and they promised that they could complete it today so we can bring it home and not have to make another trip. Hopefully that will be there case.

One many Crested Cara Cara birds we saw while in Laredo.

OMG, what a strange looking bird. I shall have to look that one up, it looks so interesting.
It reminds me of the old men with a bad toupe.  You know the ones with the pitch black hair toupes but their sideburns and back of the neck hair are all grey.

Here is a photo that I processed and plan on submitting to this month's photo club meeting.
These are actually the hands of a lady fisherman!

Hey, has anyone seen Rich lately?

Don,
Lorell is right! What a different looking bird.
Lorell,
Great shot.
Well weathered hands.

Don, I recognized this raptor immediately becaise I've seen other photos of the species, but none were as good as yours. Your low angle looking up and the bird's posture make it a majestic portrait. Very well done!

Lorell, what a fine image; it displays your creativity and artistic judgment in several ways. First, the crop is inspired. The gnarled (but I sense steady and sensitive) hands draw me eye. Excellent value control, engaging textures, and very good color (the browns and blues work well, and the greens of the shoe soles add a subtle color variation).

Good day to you, Grant. I hope it's a good one for you.

Today was the first day in almost 2 weeks that my daily walks were pain free. And the early morning light was clear and strong, delivering some nice photo conditions. I'll be processing some of today's photos for a few days and will post the best of them one day at a time.

Meanwhile, here's a shot from two days ago of another Ketchup & Mustard rose. It's obvious that I'm still struggling with controlling vivid colors (red in this case); I made three postable-sized images and am not satisfied with any of them. This is the best I could manage...

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

I am doing OK here, just got in a rut! Thanks for your concern Lorell!

Don, hope all works out with the one day replacement!
The bird is really strange! Lorell is correct about the toupe, really looks like a bad one. I used to see them like that a lot but not so much anymore.
A beautiful capture, looks like he is posing for you. The simple BG and the rock perch makes for a fine shot. Composition is great!

Lorell, excellent capture, well seen and processed to give it an old look. I wonder how it would look in sepia or B&W? I do like this version for the spots of color though.

Hi Grant!

Dave, the rose is a beaut! The reds and all the colors are spot on! Have you calibrated your monitor? Awesome composition and presentation!

Went out to our lake this past weekend for the annual Elks Youth fishing derby. I don't walk on water (ice) anymore since many years ago when I was taking photos for a CC competition.  I stepped in a fishing hole someone had drilled. Was not a fun adventure. The hole was covered up with a little snow.

The second shot far left shows the house we lived in when I was in grade school. The empty lot to the right is where my dog Duke, a black lab was buried. The lot was empty back then and we used it as a playground. It has had homes on it but the last home was torn down and nothing has been rebuilt for years.
These photos are taken from the warmth of my car with my 28-960 zoom.

Dave,
A simple adjustment in Selective Color. Hope you don't mind but I went ahead and made an adjustment.

Dave, I loved your rose photo and the vibrancy of the colors. The bokeh is perfect too.
Glad that your foot pain has subsided. At our age you never know what “the ache of the day” is going to be. But it is good to keep moving.
I am excited about the images that you will be sharing next.

Rich, It is good to see you. I know we all get busy and sometimes need a break. I need to remember that instead of worrying about you all.
You were smart to stay in your car. I remember as a child my dad took all of us ice fishing and he drilled the hole in the us. I am not sure how it happened but my mother slipped and her leg went into the hole practically up to her hip. She ended up in the car and dad had the heater going on to warm her up. She must have been si scared, my mom never learned how to swim. She never learned how to rude a bicycle either (which has nothing to do with story but I thought I would share that too).

Hey Grant!

Thanks all for the nice comments about the hands of a fisherman . And now I will tell you a little secret.
The hands belong to a woman!

Hi Rich. Your photos took me back to times we (my parents and brothers) spent ice fishing. I recall many cold hours (especially if it was windy) with few fish caught. I remember another time in the depths of a Michigan winter when our parents visited friends who lived beside a small late. Bored by the hours of adults yakking, we three kids (probably around ages 8, 10, and 12) went out for a walk. Of course the lake was our destination and we walked out a ways and wandered around the middle of the lake. When we sought to return we found that the sun, weak as it was that day, had melted the ice near the shoreline, leaving 6 to 10 feet of open and very cold water the shoreline. We had to search for nearly an hour to find a way safely back on land.

Grant, thanks for again offering your help. I'm using Photoshop Elements; while I haven't found a Selective Color adjustment, there are a couple of ways to simulate one. I just haven't yet found one that produces the consistent results I want.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Loved all the images.
Don, what a great photo of the Cara Cara....I would love to see that in person!
Your treatment of the lady fisherman is great, Lorell.....Those hands look like somebody who has worked hard and spent many long hours in the sun......the condition of the fingernails and shoes, wonder if she depends on that fish to eat?
Dave, another wonderful rose shot.....this rose is so cheery! Like sunshine getting ready to burst out!
Rich, that ice fishing looks like a lot of fun. Guess people who live in cold climates find a way to enjoy life. Ice must be thick, even have cars out there!!

Thanks Lorell, Dave and Natalie!

Yes Lorell thats what happened to me too! Leg down in the hole up to my hip!

Dav, that had to be scary for you all! Lucky you weren't on a floating island if ice!

Natalie, yes thick enough to hold cars, just don't park them next to each other. Lots of people like to ice fish. I am not one of them.
