How about a paint stirrer?

No, not a paint stirrer.
I'll wait a day to see if the second photo helps others ID the item. But I'll repeat that in one of her responses Natalie was sort of on the right track - she got the general function right, but not the specific details of what things this item is designed to be used for. Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him! Nikon D7500 with Nikkor 18-300 mm; PSE2021, PSCS5 Ny Flickr Albums

Is it a toaster for a campfire?

No, not a campfire toaster.
It doesn't require external energy (other than the minimal energy one expends when using it). How do you use it? Very basic - you just secure the items this is designed for to it. Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him! Nikon D7500 with Nikkor 18-300 mm; PSE2021, PSCS5 Ny Flickr Albums

Is it for Squirrel Nutkin?
or is it simply a letter envelope holder?

Sorry, it has nothing to do with squirrels, nor is it a holder for mail.
But with "holder" you're on the right track - now just figure out what it holds. Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him! Nikon D7500 with Nikkor 18-300 mm; PSE2021, PSCS5 Ny Flickr Albums

You got it, Don!
I modified mine by replacing the original small metal water container with a much larger volume clear plastic jar. Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him! Nikon D7500 with Nikkor 18-300 mm; PSE2021, PSCS5 Ny Flickr Albums

Oh! Good work, Don! I have never seen one, so it's hard to guess, but it sort of resembled some metal teapot holders, and could be un attached from a teapot! I tried! Good one, Dave!!

Giod one Dave! Good job Don! That is the first thing I thought of but talked myself out of it. It looked like galvanized metal and I thought they were aluminum or plastic.
