Rich put a comment on my Flickr site regarding an image that I submitted at our camera club meeting this past week. It reminded me that I had done a brief writeup for the folks on using sky photographs to enhance bland areas of images. I thought that I should perhaps put the stuff here in case someone is interested.

First - the image (after the improvement).

Attached below is the writeup. (I hope this works?)

Striking image, Peter.

I'll read the writeup later - time for a few hours of sleep.

A shot taken a couple of days ago of some large-bladed plant in a neighbor's yard. I did my usual RAW editing; that includes choosing one of the Adobe Raw color spaces, which tends to intensify the colors. So I applied two rounds of a Saturation layer to reduce the intensity. It la bit subdued I view it posted, but very vivid when I view it in my image viewer app. I'm not sure how it will look for you folks...

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Peter, I like the way you think. Wish you would drop by more often. I took your lead and added some clouds to my bland sky. Thank you for the idea!
Dave, The bit of red and part of the dead plant contrast nicely with all that green.

The Regatta or Giant Sail pass in Cowichan Bay is well attended. The Village fills up and the sailboats multiply.
I added the sky from another shot.

Again a pano

 then a detail

finally the pano showing where the detail came from

Wonderful B&W, Peter. The detail and lighting are really good and the flower, elegant.
Dave, nice work up with the colors.
Grant, a great subject for some hi-resolution fun.

Peter, Thanks for sharing the great advice.  This would be something that I would like to share with my own photo club.  I guess I will work on an image to make it come alive like yours.

You always bring something exciting and unique to our forum.
Thanks, Peter.
