Hello all. It's HUMP day. How come today does not feel any different than other days?
I am not sure if that is good or bad.
We had wind chills of -7 degrees this morning. I am sure glad that I went to the park yesterday to take photos of the snow and not today.
But yesterday afternoon I spent some time putting together 15 images to creat this layered composition.
I bought the diffusers that Harold Ross created for what he calls "raking the light". I have a long way to go before I can produce anything close to his masterpieces but have to remind myself that I think I read that he has been doing this for over 20 years. He has classes in person and on line, the cost of which made me gulp! It is more expensive than college tuition, well, at least the tuition that I paid when I attended school.
I call this, MY DAD'S TOOLS. (But I think some of them might have belonged to my grandfather first)
Have a good day all.
LORELL
WOW! A lot of work and creativity went into that amazing image. But I'd say the results were worth the effort - I love it.
I still have nothing recent worth sharing, so I again revisited an older image. This one from August 2018 that I recropped and reprocessed a couple of hours ago...
Have a good day or evening, friends.
Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Lorell, absolutely jaw dropping, I am Gobsmacked! VERY professional! A feeling of nostalgia for me! Amazing! Lots of work and time but the results are worth it! A Winner!
Dave, I wouldn't say this is "nothing to share" Great lighting and background. Catchlight in the helps!
Nothing from me today, couple degrees below zero last night, wind shift to the south, 40 degrees today!
Good morning all. Sorry to hear about some of the cold weather. It is sunny and 56F here right now. It was warm enough yesterday to take the bike for a wee spin. Stopped along a secondary road to shoot some photos of an old, abandoned store too. I need to finish the roll so I can see what it looks like.
Lorell, great shot there. Fifteen images! Wow. But the result sure looks like it was worth it.
Dave, killer humming bird shot. You always seem to have great backgrounds no matter what you are shooting. I remember somewhere along the line some photographer was stressing "pay attention to the background" and you do it well. I have had some good shots ruined by not doing that.
Here is an old photo of the motorcycle I had in 1968. Great little motorcycle. Mine is the one on the right. My buddy's bike is the left one. Mine was a 250cc and his a 200cc. We rode those things from Jacksonville to Key West and back over a 3 day weekend. Ah to be young and able to do that these days.
Rich, good to hear that it is warming up a bit today.

Immortalized forever
With silver and light"
Thank you all. This image is rather blurry, the one I posted on FLICKR shows more definition and textures. But I really appreciate your comments.
Don, OMG, that looks like the beaches on AMI (Anna Maria Island). Great shot of the bikes with the sand and water in the background. Visions of a good memory.
AH Yes, to be young again. AS they say, it sure doesn't pay to get old.
Rich, Thanks, friend. I hope that the heatwave arrives here by Friday. Five members of our photo club are taking a 3-1/2 hour trip to the West coast of Michigan. We are leaving at 6:30 am and making stops at 3 lighthouses on the western coast. We have attempted to make this trip the last two years unsuccessfully, but weather permitting, it is going to happen on Friday. The winds are fierce out there on the water. We won't be venturing out on the piers, they will hopefully be ice covered, we hope. And we will probably take photos from the parking lots, but it is still going to be exciting.
Dave, I remember this photo, the original that you had framed for a show or competition. I like this crop a lot, especially since the bird is still so clear. And Rich is right, the background is a perfect complement to the colors of the bird's wing and beak.
Grant, what's for dinner tonight? Your pasta and shrimp inspired dinner for me tonight. Thanks for the idea. I shall make that along with a nice side salad with my famous Italian dressing.
Don, I am glad you dragged your camera along all the time and I bet you are too! Great shot. Could have been used for a commercial back in the day!
Lorell, that sounds like a trip I would like to go on except for the drive there and back!
I hope you get some ice covered shots and some warm temps. Right now it is 43 degreesF-6C but with a 15 MPH wind doesn't feel like it.
Thanks all for the nice reaction to my reworked hummer photo.
Rich, it had rained earlier in the day that I took the photo and the dark clouds were just starting to break up, producing the lovely light. I also got lucky that the catch-light in the eye was natural, no need to add in processing.
Don, I try to be aware of the background but more often than not have to do some cloning and/or blurring work on them. As I remember that day, the light was so nice that I was out to take photos of leaves and trees against the sky. It was serendipitous that I noticed the hummer before I got so close as to scare it away.
Grant, thank you.
Lorell, thank you for giving specifics of what you like about the shot. BTW, I haven't printed or framed the original shot, but I've framed one other hummingbird photo (same species, same left-facing posture, but it was set against a light tan background and was perched on a gracefully curving green aloe blade); perhaps you're remembering that one.
Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
