Good day, folks.

Another from March 2005. This is an Egyptian Goose. It's not native to North America, but a few breeding groups can be found in Southern California. most likely after escaping captivity.

Some geese have the reputation of being rather aggressive; the Egyptian Goose goes beyond this, and seems downright ill-tempered: in my experience they will chase anything from other birds of any size and kind to dogs to people.

But they sure have a distinctive and attractive color pattern.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Greetings All!

Dave, I can see the angry in his eye! I assume you were using a telephoto lens! They do have a pretty color, not at all like the Canadian we have here.

Well, there is a 20 below zero F wind chill today so no outside photos from me!!

Here is a composite photo I did many years ago from Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes. Sunset is from one lake and sailboat from another lake. Warms me up on a cold day!

Rich, SHHHHHHH, your secret is safe with me.  If you would not said anything about the switcheroo, there is not way to detect this in this expertly created image.  It probably took a long time to work around the silhouettes of the trees.  And now they have sky replacement tools that do the work for you.  I sure am not complaining. This is great, Rich.

My dog is begging me to take her for a walk.  It is 40 right now with a brisk wind.  But if you are telling me that things are going to get a  lot worse, I better spoil her now.

Dave , thanks for starting our daily.  You wonder what makes certain species so aggressive.  And it has nothing to do with the size as MFI posted the other day when he shared the photo of the stinging ants.  Anyway, I guess she is a perfect example of "don't let the package fool you".  She is pretty with a beautiful feather pattern, but Rich is right, look at those eyes!  Cool shot, Dave.

Well, here is another BLUE shot for tomorrow's meeting, or maybe not.  I will use this if I cannot come up with something else.  I never got a clear shot of this, so I tried to turn it into something a little artistic.  I am not sure I pushed the sliders enough to make it acceptable.  Does the blur bother you?  Be honest, please.

Lorell, I am on the fence with the photo. Parts I like and parts I wonder about. I am not making the connection of the sign and clocks. A still life should have similar items. Now a bikini, doesn't need a model, and a blue curacao martini would be good. You can use water and blue food coloring in your martini glass unless that is your drink of choice! Then take the photo near happy hour so as not to waste it! The sign is a little soft, maybe put items in the foreground and sign in the back as to mimic depth of focus, I do like the sign!!

I am thinking Grant will have some ideas!

Thanks for the comment on the sunset photo. I have added the two photos I used. You can see I took some liberty's with the boat.

Rich, The connection I get is Happy hour. Wine Oklock or Coctail Hour;
Lorell, yes a bit soft. Maybe run with it! Perhaps an Orton glow for the sign would make sense, however IMHO sometimes content IS the whole story.

Here is another image from 35 years ago. No Bikini or clocks.

Lose the robe!

This was taken last year in a little Boutique on Anna Maria Island, Fl.  I did not set it up, I just took a photo of what was sitting on the shelf. Maybe they put those items together because of the contrasting colors.  If the saying was super sharp, then I would say I would submit it.  But it will look ever more blurry if blown up on a large TV.  Thank you both very much.  You helped me make my decision and thanks for your honesty.

Grant, your message, " Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Experience tells you which mistakes to keep!", reminds me how the club responds to anything that is unintentionally blurred.  Since the sign is the subject, it should NOT be the blurriest element in the composition.

Rich, I am even more impressed now that I see the two images that you combined.  WOW, good work.

Grant, Another beautiful flowing harmonious composition. I like how you captured two versions on the woman's face, one looking down and the other a profile.  I like how bits are in focus while the others are not.  Was this all done on a computer or done IN CAMERA?

Lorell, To answer your question;
The image was done all in camera. Only hand coloured afterwards on a 16x20 print. The image was made on Type 55 Polaoid film in a polaroid back on a Bronica 645 camera. I got 12 shots / pack of film. This film was unique as it gave both a B&W negative and a print to view. Thereby The model and I could gage the results with almost instant feedback.
The afternoon shoot took several hours and most of the 12 shots. Each take would be about 5 minutes and I had to direct her by having her hold the pose for 30 seconds then move slowly or more quickly. I had to previsualise the shots in my mids eye. Before computers and PS1.

Thanks Lorell!

Grant, quite a process, good work! I thought maybe you used a strobe light and darkened room.

Good afternoon all. Nice capture of the goose Dave. I don't think I have ever seen one, but he does look ornery.

Rich, nice composition on the 2 shots. They go together well.

What blur there is doesn't bother me Lorell. I like the shot. Never was much of a martini guy but I do like a margarita every now and again, or a wee dram of a good single malt scotch. These days they are few and far between because of all the empty calories.

Well done on the model Grant. Interesting that it was all done in the camera. Multiple exposures?

The weather is nice here today and I was able to get the motorbike out for a little spin. Just enough to keep the battery topped up. We are supposed to go camping in SW Georgia in a couple of weeks and I am hoping the weather will cooperate. Supposed to get really nasty here this weekend with freezing rain and possible icing. Fortunately we don't have any plans.

Lorell, our photo club meet for tonight was cancelled due to you know what. That is going to mess up the scheduled programs because I thought I was supposed to do the program next month but it looks like they slid this months to next month. Not sure when (of if) I will do a program now.

Looks like we are down to about 7 members who post fairly regularly. I hope we don't continue to dwindle in number. It has been almost 2 weeks I think since Patty posted - hope all is well there.

Now it is time to help with dinner.

Rich, A darkened room and the modeling lamps on 2 strobes. I had a black velvetine backdrop sewn together to absorb light. The light coloured body reflected the light. It was a process.
