I only have the one hive in the yard at present and being autumn heading towards winter and this hive is one I cut out of an orange orchard tree, requiring the use of tractor fitted with forklift. It had no honey, no brood and it is late in the season. so I wished to feed it. The feeder worked well. Fitting two buckets together creating a vacuum but it only attracted the bees from other hives down the road. I am largely iin partnership these days with a younger man who owns the citrus orchard on the local sand dune. so I drove the tractor while he cut the hive out of the tree. He has the rest of my hives at the farm which is as the crow flies, roughly half a kilometre from ground zero here.
Since then, the in-hive feeder arrived in the mail. That fitted, keeps all the food in the hive. The next problem is ants. I put dishes of water under the legs.

The black bit is the feeder.
Happiness simply is.
There need be no pursuit.

Interesting hive....I have concrete blocks under my hive, so if I get ants, not sure what I can do about it. I see a bunch of brown stuff outside the door of my hive, guess they are cleaning house!
