Dave, You more than anyone else I know could make use of a Petzval lens for your Nikon. New stock is hard to get a hold of as they come from the Ukraine, but they have a swirly bokeh that may be right up your alley. Used ones are cheap. I bet you would have fun.

As it is your composition is lovely. That little yellow flower holds its own against the background.
Grant, good morning, how are you doing today?
You sure do know a lot about cameras and equipment and of course, you know how to use them I have never heard of a Petzval lens. Did you own or use a lens like this? I like the effect. Getting new lenses is exciting, both the search, the wait, opening the box when it arrives and then using it to create different effects.
Boy, there is a huge assortment of them online.
Dave, your comp is really good, especially with the splash of yellow and where it is positioned. I also like how the background goes from dark to light tan and the addition of the white blossoms is icing on the cake. Good eye, Dave, and good photo. Thanks for starting our daily.
I think I will submit this image for tomorrow night's photo club meeting. Still working on several others though. Because of our club's frequent outings, I have a lot more to pick from.
Lorell, Doing fine although we are getting a taste of winter AGAIN. Yes I own a Petzval, but it is a vintage Brass without a built in focusing
system. These lenses are most definitely built around a specific format. The one I have works on a format smaller than 5x4. A bellows is required to focus and the best way to get the effect is to work on obtaining a swirly bokeh and then moving the camera closer or farther to achieve focus on the subject. The newer Lomography offering is much easier to use.
Thanks for the comment about my photo, Grant. And for the info about the Petzval. I'm not a big fan of the swirly look, but I suspect the lens is capable of far more than that so I'll look into it.
Hi, Lorell, and thanks. That's a pretty powerful B&W - in addition to all that's good about it (which includes composition, focus, and value control), I like that it shows the large background image that would appear behind it when viewed or photographed straight on.
Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Dave, love the light and darks of this one The flower is very crisp! Lovely!
Grant, many interesting photos from one lens. Thanks for sharing the info! Good demo photo!
Lorell, what an interesting photo! Were those men camera club members dressed up and posing for you or mannequins! Gives new meaning to being an "outrider"
Boy wouldn't the smooth tires be a fun ride today on pavement and wet roads?
Wonderful viewpoint and angle. B&W perfect!
Hi Everyone!
Dave, that is a nice burst of color in your composition!
Lorell, that is a cool photo! I love the angle, the B&W treatment and the subject.
Really nice! I guess they were rally/racers?
Hi Grant, sorry you have another round of winter weather.
It has to end sometime! Hang in there!
Thats a nice piece of brass! I love the vintage look of it.
Not sure about the swirl effect but its pretty interesting that the lens can separate the subject from the background like that.
Hi Rich! Any signs of spring in your part of SD yet?
This is a cell phone snapshot from yesterdays walk (little creek in our neighborhood)
Hi Patty, that looks like a nice peaceful walking area!
A beautiful spring day today but ground is still brown. It has been VERY windy and COLD for a month.
