Thu Feb 16, 2023 - Dave - 02-16-2023

Good day, fellow Foto Friends. I hope it is. was, or will be a good one for you all.

I attacked the dandelions and other invasive in the outer front yard yesterday. Only got about 35% of it done before my aching back told me to stop. But even that 35% nearly filled our large green trash bin; judging by how heavy that bin felt as I was rolling it back out of sight it may have up to 40 pounds (18 kilos).

Rather than posting yet another floral, I decided to show three versions of a commercial roof-line in yesterday morning's half-light.

1)  First is the original uncropped and unprocessed image...

2)  Next the cropped color version; several layers to fine-tune values, and some color intensity work in isolated areas...

3)  I was pleased with the color version then thought the scene might be a good candidate for B&W, so I converted to grayscale and again tweaked the values...

Good morning, Dave.....Thanks for sharing your conversions.....so much can be done with RAW images.....wish we had this when I was young....so many photos sent to be printed because we took photos and did not know until the prints came back if we actually had any decent shots.
Both the color and the b&w are good ones!!

My daffodils are about to burst into bloom...can hardly wait....so here is one from my past......

Thanks Natalie. Every once in a while I try to shoot something other than florals, succulents or sunrises and sunsets.

I hope whatever aches and pains you endure are not too acute. Speaking for myself, I agree 100% with the belief that getting older sure ain't for sissies.

Impressive daffodil photo. I really like the dried leaves  in the background - it's so cool that you captured the daffodil forcing itself through one of them.

I should plant some daffodils because I think they are very photogenic. But they're also challenging to shoot because of the depth of field inherent in the blossoms.

Thank you, Dave.....I want to plant more, too, because they are the first signs of spring!!  My neighbor has one bunch in full bloom!  I see one almost ready, maybe by tomorrow....  but I have some shots I took a few years ago, hope you all don't mind seeing them again, they are my favorites....I should frame some and put on my walls to cheer me up....
Dave, my knees are painful and my lower back, I cannot get down on the ground and take photos like I used to...I hate that.  Yeah, old age is not for sissies. My orthopedic told me I would know when it is time to do knee surgery.....it's getting close......

Pretty amazing what can be done with a digital image Dave!
I like the color one with the rusty brown color (sepia) drawing your eye to that part of the photo.
The B&W one would be a good candidate for a photojournalism story.

Natalie, What a great photo, well seen! The bright yellow against the dead leaves is stunning!

I'll join the choir, fighting an SI joint inflammation. Start PT Monday.

Like the second one a lot Natalie! Definitely a wall hanger! We won't see any flowers for another month or more.

RE: Thu Feb 16, 2023 - Dreamin - 02-17-2023

Rich, make sure the PT doesn't irritate the inflammation....I find that certain foods make my inflammation worse......like red meat and wheat......if I avoid them, my inflammation is less.....hope you feel better soon! getting old is one thing, being old and in pain is another......

Hey there, Natalie. Good advice regarding the foods that irritate. If we believed all the advertisements on TV regarding remedies, we should all feel like we were in our 20's if we used all of those "magic pills and lotions". Oh, if it were only that easy. Now we have to exercise to keep moving and relieve the pain!

I like your daffodils, especially the one with the pealing wood in the background.

Looks like spring has sprung in your area. Time to start thinking about your plans for a garden.
