Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Don - 12-14-2022 Good morning all. Cool and rainy here this morning. It's hump day and pretty soon this year will be over. Here are probably the last three images from our little trip down to SE Georgia and NE Florida. It wasn't really a photo trip but I did get a few. We stopped by a National Wildlife Refuge on the way down - nothing much to see but a few gators and some Wood Storks. Here is a big gator chilling out on a log. I shot several mushrooms, and this one turned out OK. And I can't pass up a shot like the last one. Looks soft here but it is actually pretty sharp. I'll check in later to see who has shown up. RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 12-14-2022 Good Morning, Don. I got up extra early this morning so that I could start the daily before I go to my swim aerobics class. But my eyes see that you beat me to it and have shared some delightful captures from your recent trip. Starting the HUMP DAY thread would have been perfect with he gator laying on the stump. That is so neat and I can relate to looking a lot like that in the afternoon as I go down for a nap on the couch in the living room. Oh, I love taking naps and recently read how good they are for you. That photo makes me smile. Thanks for the additional photos of some of mother nature's delicate touches to her landscape. I have more motivation to post when I have something to share. It is nice bringing a coffee cake when a friend asks you over for a cup of coffee in the morning. I don't like going anyplace empty-handed. And now I can start to share the rest of the photos that I processed for my camera club's Christmas Party. I have to send them in by midnight tonight. I may make some substitutions, but am glad that I feel happy with most of them. It is not a contest, but I always want to send my best. Like Peter D's club, the competition can be quite challenging sometimes. And I am happy to say that recently we have gotten seven new members! We have no idea how this happened, but we are very excited about seeing new faces and the fact that the club is still alive and doing well. I am happy for the two fellas who took over the club. Because of their enthusiasm and hard work, they have done so much to make the club fun, and exciting. Okay, time to get going. Here is a photo from when the president of the club drove us to the west coast of Michigan to take photos of FOUR lighthouses on Lake Michigan. It was a 6.5-hour round trip. We went one year ago in January. I will never forget this trip. It was one of the most exciting photo trips that I was on, but probably also one of the most dangerous. We talked about it for two years before we made the plans. If it weren't for the club, I would have never been able to take photos like this. I wanted to create a certain FEEL for this image. When the photo comes up on the screen tomorrow night, I plan on mentioning how I feel about it and thank them again for the opportunity they provided. RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Rich - 12-14-2022 Good Day all! So far we have lucked out on the big storm. Mostly rain here, unusal for December. Don, quite a gator shot! Not a care in the world! Mushroom is awesome. Looks like a doughnut coverd with a sugar glaze! Milkweed seeds are great! Look like they are dancing in the wind. Lorell, that is great you are getting new members in the club. Ours collapsed due to no new members and the old timers getting bored. Just an awesome photo Lorell! Everything right with it! If you were so inclined I bet you could sell that to the Travel Dept of Michigan! Here is a similar lighthouse photo from Door County, Wisconsin. Not nearly as dramatic as Lorell's though. RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Dave - 12-14-2022 Very nice set, Don: a basking gator, a perfectly composed mushroom, and a look at the pleasing delicacy Mother Nature can create. Hi Lorell. I remember seeing other photos of this scene that you shared with us. Everything is spot-on with here - quality of light, composition, values, and especially mood. Rich, I was thinking of you early this morning when I read about the storm hitting your general area. Glad you escaped the worst. I like your photo; not all must be dramatic, and the subtle colors and values of the sea and sky are a great contrast to the structure. Nothing new from me this morning, so back to the archives (March 2017) for a hummer at the feeder. Years ago I posted a different shot from this set (I use burst mode all the time), but this is the first time I processed this one... Now I'm gonna settle in to watch today's World Cup game. Underdog Morocco vs France. IMO France is the better team but Morocco is on such a roll that an upset win for them is clearly possible. The loser of this game battles Croatia for 3rd place, while the winner meets Argentina in the championship game. RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Rich - 12-14-2022 Well done Hummer Dave. Blurry wings and sharp body! RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 12-14-2022 Thanks Rich and Dave for the kind remarks. The fog created a nice mood in your lighthouse shot and I love how faint the red lighthouse is in the distance. They are sure nice to photograph especially after getting some exercise as you walk along those long piers. I wonder if any of them are used anymore now that satellites are being used for navigation now. Think of how far we have come in that area, all he way from following the stars to radar and cell phones. Dave, I bet you wish that you humming friends would return to your front yard so that you can create a blind and hang out and get more photos. Do you still have feeders in the bushes in the front of your house? This is a good shot. I love how the little toes hang loose and relaxed while the wings are flapping at an incredible speed. RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 12-14-2022 I'm in awe of awesome photos that I'll never achieve. I'm never going to see an alligator lounging on a log. I may see that or another mushroom but never in that light. The seeds I may be able to do something similar but probably not so well. I ain't never going anywhere so cold, Lorell. Though the shot was well worth the effort. Does the sea get up so high that the walkway has to be way up there, Rich? Like the way the image leads to the mist shrouded lighthouse. I do love your hummer shots Dave. This is about as close as I'll ever get to one. That's a perfect capture as it is a still, with movement. RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Dreamin - 12-15-2022 Don, you don't usually think of gators acting like kittens, basking in the sun....but that's what this reminds me of! Great shot! Your mushroom is perfect...the greens make the yellows stand out. Well done. I love to see seeds ready for dispersal.....I wonder why it is not sharp as you say....? the other two are. Lorell, that icy scene is amazing.....Your processing is wonderful. I could look at this for a long time and feel the cold. Rich, your perspective is very good. And the mist adds to the scene ......nicely done! Dave, I will never tire of looking at your hummingbirds....they are such tiny, amazing creatures. I hope you find another nest sometime so you can take more photos... RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 12-15-2022 Thanks, Natalie. I looked at the previous photos that I shared from our trip to the lighthouses and I was surprised that I never processed this one. I got to say that I think that it is one of my favorites because of the cold and mood that I feel it evokes. It brings back memories of how scared I was walking on that icy pier with no barriers along the sides. The other members were bummed when we found out that there wer high winds the day before and the waves were crashing over the pier. Can you imagine the images WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN? And I was thinking, it was 17 degrees out there, how cold would the wind chill factor have been with a brisk wind and which one of us would have been blown into Lake Michigan first? Peter, oh wow, your message was just beautiful. It really moved me to appreciate all that I have been able to see and do in this decade with my camera. Lorell RE: Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022 - Rich - 12-15-2022 For some reason I did not get notification of new posts. Dave thanks for the comment. Weather is worse today, Thursday and again tomorrow. 50 MPH and light snow. Thanks Lorell. I wonder about that too! Thanks Peter. This is one of the Great Lakes and I am thinking that in the winter with the freezing temps and high wind, snow that it would be unsafe or impossible to walk down below. Kind of like Lorell's photo. Thanks Natalie! |
