Monday 25 April 2022 - damar - 04-25-2022 Happy Monday to Everyone! Hope you all are doing well. The grandson \s wedding was this weekend and it was a beautiful event on a 400 acres farm. The weather was perfect. The old homestead is still standing. This land has been in the family (the owners) for several generations. This is the old homestead. For any of you that use the free version of FlickR, you may want to log in and read about the up-coming revisions to their policies. It looks like they will dump your archive if your photos are not all set to "Public". I only scanned the notice quickly and will go back and read it in depth. I guess this is where me and FlickR part ways because I have private albums for family only. (since DD and SiL don't live in my state) I use FlickR to post photos on this forum that are larger than the file size requirements for the forum, but it's ok. I can post smaller versions (as above photo) RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Quint - 04-25-2022 Patty, congratulations to your grandson and his new wife. That's a lovely cabin and great setting for an event. I was raised in a place very similar to that. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - damar - 04-25-2022 Thank you Quint! The ceremony was outside surrounded by grazing cattle and the reception was in a closed in pole barn done up nicely for these type of events. I love old houses. I know they aren't practical to live in these days but I would take one as a gift! Just to sit on the porch--- RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Adamphotoman - 04-25-2022 Hey Steve & Patty. Have to say Without our Foto Friends I would have gone stir Crazy with Covid seclusion. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Luv2shoot - 04-25-2022 Patty, good to hear that your wedding this weekend went well. Did the photographer take photos of the bride and groom standing/sitting on the porch? What a great backdrop especially that was in agreement with the venue. What did you have to eat? I attended a wedding in a pole bar too a few years back and could not believe how nice the place was decorated. Guess what, I can follow your lead with MORE PHOTOS FROM THE HENRY FORD MUSEUM. Your history lesson for today: Art Garland Parlor Stove, circa 1890 In the late 19th century, Detroit, Michigan, made more stoves than any other place in the world. This "Art Garland" stove was one of the fanciest models made by that city's Michigan Stove Company. The design is quite showy. Properly furnishing the parlor -- the best room in the house -- required a stylish, highly-decorative parlor stove. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Quint - 04-25-2022 Very nice display of old stoves and spinning wheel, Lorell. They make such nice photo subjects. Patty, I had to dig out an old photo I took of our place. This was after my dad put the addition which is the peak roof portion to the right. It really reminds me of your cabin. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - damar - 04-25-2022 Hi Grant! We didn't have any seclusion requirements here in the Southern USA, thankfully. No forced masking or shutting in. Some states were more strict than others. Crazy times. I couldn't stand to be shut in. Lorell, those are some beautiful stove works. I always wanted a Franklin, but they were out of our price range back then. We used to heat our house with just one wood burning heater/stove. I have one in the basement, but it's not installed. Stove pipe material is off the charts expensive. I also have a small Atlanta Stoves Works Laundry "stove" too. 2 eyes and could be used with coal or wood. Cast iron: found it on a junk pile at the end of someones driveway in south Florida (of all places) back in 1979/80. I love the big walking wheel. Cool photo!! If I was a little younger I would have one, but I already have 2 downstairs (smaller foot powered ones) Those are called "walking wheels"...step to the side to spin the big wheel, step to the spindle side to twist the fiber and wind it up on the spindle. Nice to see one fully intact. There is one at a local antique shop but the spindle is missing and I'm not sure what the age of it is. Quint, that is a cute house! Looks a lot like the one we had when we moved to GA from Florida. I'll have to dig around for a photo. Thats a nice chimney and porch too! Looks like a pretty place. Lorell, the catered food was excellent; Southern style green beans (is there any other way?) ![]() Fried Chicken tenders, dressing, beef tips in gravy, mashed potatoes and melon medley dinner rolls etc...lovely. The pole barn is where the reception was. The ceremony was out doors and the old homestead was down the path from the barn. I don't think they would want people going in and out of the homestead. Its not a part of the venue rental so I just took the photo and didn't even go up on the porch. We ride past here all the time, but you can't see any of this from the road. (its a few miles from our house) so now our curiosity is satisfied. I'll have some venue photos tomorrow. (need to resize for posting) I don't know why after I preview my post, the text formatting goes double spaced and then I have to fix it. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Luv2shoot - 04-25-2022 Sorry, Grant, I wa not snubbing you. You were posting while U was composing. Glad to be your foto friend. I think your winter weather this past season had a lot to do with keeping you captive inside. Steve, I see the similarity in the design of the two houses. Great porch. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Rich - 04-25-2022 Greetings all. Have a drive tomorrow to our Capital for an eye appointment. About half the distance as going to the Black Hills. Same Dr, outreach clinic. Bonus is I get to see my sister! Patty, neat place for a wedding! A great photo backdrop! Congrats! Thanks for the info on the walking wheel. Never heard that! Flicker may be losing a lot of members! Hi Grant. Lorell, what a great display of stoves. A different world back then. We are so fortunate. Well photographed. What a neat walking wheel! The fireplace is huge! Used for cooking I imagine. Hi Steve, a quaint cabin! When the 2020 pandemic hit our town had a drag main event. I went down to the Palace and did a video. I added music from the Beach Boys and the music police took it off due to copyright issues. I just got a notice today after 2 years that they gave it back to me with the music. I will post it tomorrow. It was fun to do. RE: Monday 25 April 2022 - Dreamin - 04-27-2022 That's a lovely old cabin, Patty....What a great idea for a wedding venue! Wow, Lorell....that's quite an assortment of old stoves...my brother used to have one with a lot of fancy nickle trim....was nice to sit by it on a cold winter evening. I have never spun wool, but went to an alpaca farm once and the woman was using a wheel similar to this one.....she was selling things she made from the wool, too. Nice! Walking wheel.....interesting. Steve, that looks like a nice porch to sit on and I bet there was a nice fireplace inside, too! |
