Friday, March 4, 2022 - Don - 03-04-2022

Reaching way back in the archives for this one. Hawaii 2006. View from the top of Diamond Head. Low res shot - don't remember what I was shooting back then but I'm sure it was pretty low MP.

Don, low-res or not, that's quite nice.

Scattered rainstorms are forecast for SoCal this morning so I went outside early to see what sort of sunrise the gathering clouds would produce. I took a few dozen shots and am working through them now, but here's the first - just a quick 60 second bit of converting from RAW then processing...

Dave, It appears from you image that you may be in store for a healthy shower today.  Ron's roses are probably smiling right now.
That is quite a dramatic sky you captured.

Thanks, Don,  for the start.  I can follow that with some shots from our journey north from Florida.
Number ONE is a shot from Kentucky looking at the skyline of Cincinnati.

Number TWO is traveling over the  North bound-bridge that connects Kentucky to Ohio with the southbound bridge in the distance. One year when we were on our way back, a truck lost its load of sod just before exiting the bridge.  Traffic got backed up for miles while things got cleaned up.  We were lucky that we were close to the incident and it only took us a little while to get around the mess even though only one lane was open.

Number THREE is an example of the number of trucks we saw continuously on our trip back.  Never saw anything like it.

All of these were captured with my cell phone through the windows of our van. If we had cleaner windows, the focus would have been better.

Morning! That city looks great from your perch, Don!

Hi, Dave....dramatic skies there.....hope you get rain if you need it!

Morning, Lorell.....nice road trip shots......whoa, that is an amazing number of trucks....maybe they will be able to catch up with supplies.....

I'll do a little catch up:  Since I last was with you guys, I have retired from the poultry business....the houses now sit empty.  The industry always keeps changing things up, and to stay in business I would have had to do about $125,000.00 in "upgrades"  I think the poultry companies are in cahoots with the equipment stores!  Anyway, I had already been experienceing bad shoulders, knees and back. At my age, I did not want to go in debt again......so I retired. My daughter still lives with me, but she went and got a job, since she was helping me with the business. She plans to create a greenhouse out of part of one of the poultry houses, and start a business here that way. She would have to apply for loans/grants. We shall see what happens. In the meantime, I lost my 3 beautiful dogs to old age/disease. They were such good dogs!  We had a lot of fun going boating (sold my boat) and beach running!! I miss them terribly. My daughter got another German Shepherd a year and a half ago.....she is a sweetheart. Long black silky hair! Which is now all over my house!! I would love to have another Boxer, they are my favorite breed, but decided to not take on raising another  pup, so much work goes into raising a pup.....Anyway, we have 4 indoor cats, and not all dogs like cats....that would be more stress, so .....for now, one dog.  That's it for now.

Natalie,
Nice looking dogs; fun that they are 3 different breeds. They look happy. I am guessing that the single with snow face is your daughter's. We have two Lhassa Apsos coming up to 9 month old brothers. It is challenging.

Lorell,
Hope those truckers were not honking their horns. The convoys that left our area made a lot of noise. They sure are loud!

Dave,
I like all sky shots, except maybe close ups of tornadoes.

Don,
Your shot brings back memories, low res or not.

Speaking of snow face

Grant, the colors in your tree shot are wonderful...wow! And your Lhassa Apsos are so cute with the snow!!

Natalie, I hope that you are starting to enjoy your retirement. It takes a while to adjust and then you will find yourself even busier than ever. The nice thing is that when you are retired, you can always put off till tomorrow what you didn’t get to today. I hope the docs can help your medical issues. As they say, “It doesn’t pay to get old.”

Losing all three dogs, I can’t imagine how much your heart must have been aching. A pup is a lot of work, maybe a rescue dog might be lucky enough to join you at a later time when you feel ready for it. In the meantime, stay away from those adoption fairs, it is hard to look into the big brown eyes as those orphans peer through the bars on the cages and go away empty handed.

Good luck to your daughter, is she going to specialize in a certain type of produce? Her Shepard is gorgeous.

Grant lovely tones and transition in the sky. My oh my, that is beautiful. But I bet they brought a lot of that snow into the house. Your dogs are sweet. I bet they are looking forward to spring too.

Lorell, I will take a boring SD drive with no traffic, thank you very much!
