Thursday, March 3, 2022 - Don - 03-03-2022

Good morning all. Looks like it is going to be another nice day here today. A bit chilly now but might even reach 80F by mid afternoon!

Here is a city scape taken from a bridge that goes from Columbus, GA over to Phenix City, AL. HP5 film. Probably the last image from this roll of film that I will post.

Good morning Don and others to follow.
We finished our three day trip home from Florida. Geez it seemed longer than usual. Maybe it was the traffic. OMG, never experienced that many trucks on the road. It was tense all the way back.
But it is sure good to be back.
Sorry that I have been MIA so much, hopefully I will be able to get back in the swing of things as we get settled and back into our daily routine.

Thanks for starting our daily, Don. The photo looks nostalgic, like it was taken years ago. Cool.
Lorell

RE: Thursday, March 3, 2022 - Rich - 03-03-2022

What a great scene Don! As Lorell said, a nostalgic look. Kind of turn of the 19th to 20th century.

Lorell, same traffic on our Interstate, lots of trucks. Going to head out west to the Black Hills for a short visit soon. Have an eye appointment tomorrow at the clinic where my daughter works.

Herre is a plane that was on the ship I served on. It was a Marine Plane. There is always a Marine detachment on each aircraft carrier. I converted to B&W and added a little grain for fun.

Very nice, Don. Lorell is right - it does evoke memories of times long past.

Lorell, I'm glad you arrived home safely after that long, tense drive.

Hi Rich; you posted as I was correcting my many typos. Nice photos and processing. For some reason, the Coral Sea sounds familiar to me - I'll have to do some searching to find out why that is.

It sure was good to hear from Natalie, wasn't it?

Nothing unique from me to share, so please forgive yet another "hummingbird at the feeder" shot...

RE: Thursday, March 3, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 03-03-2022

Hi again.
Nice additions to today's daily.  I posted a photo of something that we had seen for the first time on the road on our trip back home.  It reminded me of Natalie, who use to have a huge chicken farm and I assume, she is familiar with a truck like the one I posted. Yes, it is great to see Natalie again. I posted the photo in The thread that Natalie started the other day.

Rich, your photos reminded me of one of our guests who stayed a few days with us in Florida.  He was about 15 years younger than us and served in the Navy.  He was an electrician and served on the Midway Aircraft Carrier.  Although he was able to go up and deck, all of his work was done in the hangers in the belly of the ship.  It sure was interesting talking to him.  What aircraft carrier were you on, Rich?  That is a great photo of you, Rich.  I salute you.

Dave, Love the bright colors in your hummer image and also the sparkle reflections of the sun glistening on the feeder.

Be back in a few with a photo for all of you.
LORELL

RE: Thursday, March 3, 2022 - Don - 03-03-2022

Some fine photos today folks.

I believe a couple of my buddies I was stationed with at Mayport served on the Coral Sea, back in the 60's.

What species of HB is that Dave?

I saw your "chicken truck" Lorell! Hate to get behind one of those things on a 2 lane.  Did you come back on I-75? We will be taking that on Sunday when we go down to Lakeland. We'll pick it up at Tifton, Ga and will be on it a little more than 4 hours. That's plenty. I-75 is always awful.

I took a longish ride today on the bike, up toward NE Ga a ways to visit Red Oak Creek Covered Bridge. First time I have ridden the bike up there. DW and I have visited in the auto. Nice day to ride, so I did about 100 miles and 2 1/2 hours. A little chilly to start but warmed up nicely.

DON, yes, we traveled i-75 from Michigan to Anna Mariia Island.  Sunday should be a nice drive for you. You should not have anywhere near as many trucks and other vehicles to share the road with as we encountered.

Nice photo of your bike in front of the covered bridge, Don.  Glad that you were able to take the bike out for a nice long ride.  All of that fresh air had to be really nice blowing in your face.

So, I tried to combine the feel of your first image with the subject of Rich's first image and after working on a photo that I took at the Selfridge National Air Base Museum, I came up with this.

RE: Thursday, March 3, 2022 - Dave - 03-03-2022

Thanks Lorell. I'm not seeing a chicken truck photo - where did you post it? Nice, appropriate treatment on your photo of the WWII plane.

Don, that was a pretty long ride. (You reminded my of a time when a frat brother drove me from Wisconsin to my home in Cincinnati, on the back of his powerful motorcycle. I hadn't thought of that fun experience in years.) To answer your question, the most common HB species here is the Anna's, but the one in my photo has much more orange/rust color than Anna's do - it's more like a Rufous. The Rufous Hummingbird used to be here only when stopping by during migration, but in recent years an increasing number have taken to staying here all year. So I'm pretty sure my photo is of a male Rufous hummer.

Evening, all. I've been enjoying all the photos.
Yes, Don, your image does look like images I see in old books. Cool that you can do the film photography!  Glad you got to ride on your bike, wish I could see that covered bridge!
That's a long drive home, Lorell!  I like the vintage conversion you did on that plane. Saw your chicken truck photo, I commented over there!
Love your images, Rich, especially with you in it! I like the vintage B&W look you did, too.
Dave, hummers amaze me how they can flick a few feathers and glimmer!  Love the greens and reds! Will be a while before ours return. Have you still got hummers nesting in your bush every summer?

Can somebody tell me HOW to post photos? I linked the Rusty Car to Flickr, but it's a smaller image and if you click on it, it takes you to Flickr. But everyone else just posts a photo...what are the ways to post? Answer can be put in my trial over at the practice thread......Thanks

RE: Thursday, March 3, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 03-03-2022

Natalie there are several ways to post a photo. One way is when you are done writing your text, click on “PREVIEW POST”.

You will  now see additional options to change font, color, size, etc.  But if you scroll to the bottom of the new page, you will see a space with the words, CLICK OR DROP FILES HERE TO UPLOAD. Go to wherever your files are located,  click on the one you wish to upload  and click  the button, POST REPLY

Dave, sorry for confusing you. I posted  the photo in the thread Natalie started on March 1st.
