More trees for you.

Love those tree with their contrasting colors and values.

I have nothing new to share so I went way back into my archives (to January 23 2017) for this subtly colored succulent...

And in a few minutes I'll post an image for my WhatIzIt? thread.

RE: Weekender 24/25th May 2025. - Luv2shoot - 05-25-2025

Hello there.  I have something new to share.
This was taken with my fish-eye lens at the club's photo shoot several weeks ago.
We have been asked to send four photos for a gallery that our president will put together. I will send this one in, but I will struggle to find others that are worthy of sharing.

Peter, the bark on those white trunk trees almost looks like our birch trees in the States, minus the black horizontal lines on our trunks. Our birch trees always look like their bark is peeling. It appears that the bark of your trees might peel off seasonally.  The first photograph you shared looks quite painterly though I know you did nothing to make it appear so.  I like it. It is taken from a good POV.

Dave, Succulents are "so in" these days.  My son gave me a beautiful potted succulent planter for Mother's Day.  There is quite an assortment of plants.  I love it. In spite of the fact that your photograph is all one shade of green, you captured good contrast in that composition. Well done.

Hi Lorell. It's good to "see" you here again.

I'm not a fan of fish-eye photos - I find the unrealistic distortion too extreme. But you photo has so much going for it (spot-on colors, values, and composition) and relatively little distortion, and I really like it. Very well done, as always.

Thanks for your comments about my photo. Yes, it's all various values of the same green but I choose to believe that unifies the image, and at least there is a good range of values.

Yes. Succulents are good xeriscaping plants and do like Lorell suggested, provide texture and contrast. I lke that you have the water drops sharpish, Dave. It all adds to the depth in the image
However, that makes them weeds in Australia.  Which is why I avoid growing them. I do keep some Aloe vera and a small amount of cacti. The lady wife hates the cactus spikes but likes the flowers.

That is a gentle and well used fisheye image there Lorell. It really gives the image depth.

Painterly you say?
That's how I was attempting to compose it. Someone else planted these trees decades ago. I was simply attempting to capture the mood of the artist who planted them. Canberra is a city worth visiting in that regard. It was designed as was my own home town by  Walter Burley Griiffin, who left the USA to reside in Australia.

Here's another angle showing the same trees or some of them.

I see teal colored leaves in that nice landscape shot. They look so nice with the dark brown trunks of the trees.

Thank you for the pleasant feedback on my photo.
I have a camera strap that holds 2 cameras. It is a very comfortable piece of gear and allows me to switch between my fish eye lens and my zoom lens. I have 2 OLYMPUS m1 mark ii’s. I find myself using the fish eye twice as much as the regular lens. It seems like when I look through the view finder, things look brighter and more alive.

Tonight I worked on several more photos for the gallery we will be sending to the club. You will be seeing more fish eye fotos since those were the ones that appealed to me the most.
Besides sending them photos, we also purchased a hundred dollar grocery gift card for the fire fighters at the station. They work 12 hour shifts and they take turns cooking lunch and dinner every day.

See you tomorrow.
Lorell

Brighter and more alive is all about that field of view.
