Tuesday, April 22, 2025 - Luv2shoot - 04-22-2025 Hi again, I just got back from the gym. And before I drag out the material and start a new quilting project, I wanted to stop in and say hello. Here is another from our club meeting. I have looked at this photo in my archives for several years. I like the subject and the composition, but no matter what I did, it always looked too busy. I took this photo on a group shoot with my camera club. We were walking around an area in Detroit, taking photos of wall art. I understand that Detroit has been named one of the best cities to view excellent street art. As we were walking, there was an open door that I stuck my head into and spotted this man working on adding designs to shirts. But because he was surrounded by so many things, the photo just didn't work for me. Then I accidentally came upon the idea of removing the colors of things that weren't part of what he was working on. I was lucky that the red was so vibrant. So, I removed the blues, greens, and purples. I left in the reds, yellows, and oranges. And wallah, I was happy with the result. I was surprised that it still look believable and NOT like a color selective photo. When I got a lot of positive reactions from the club members from the photo, I decided to keep my secret to myself and just say thank you. Now that you know my little secret, you can probably spot the fact that it is missing other colors, but I think I fooled everyone last Thursday, at least I hope so. People don't tend to expect blues and greens inside workshops. So it tends to make the whole thing more believable. RE: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 - Luv2shoot - 04-22-2025 I think you are correct, Peter. Thanks, Peter. RE: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 - Dave - 04-23-2025 Great job, Lorell. It does look 100% natural. Usually I don't like it when my photos have areas of motion blur, but in your photo it adds a lot of interest without being distracting. I'm struck by the rapid movement of his hands contrasted with his rock-steady head and eyes. I've done the same thing (desaturated some selected colors in selected areas of an image) but never as successfully as you did here. RE: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 - Rich - 04-23-2025 Lorell...WoW! What a wonderful manip you produced. Looks very natural/normal to me! |
