Weekender April 19-20 - Dave - 04-19-2025 I'm gonna be lazy today. I overdid some heavy gardening yesterday (pruning back some thick woody growth, still trying to control the invasive kudzu, and digging up dandelions) and I'm paying for the labor with back pain. I plan so watch some soccer, maybe break out the watercolors, and/or do some reading. Here's the other hovering hummingbird (a male, most likely a Rufous Hummingbird, taken a little over 6 years ago) displaying red iridescence... You all have yourselves a good weekend. RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Rich - 04-19-2025 Beautiful bird and capture. Well done for an in flight Hummer! Here is a 1936 Chevy, called the Gangster car. RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Dave - 04-19-2025 Beautiful car, Rich. And your photo does it justice. I love the blue & white paint scheme; it's as if this particular 36 Chevy anticipated by decades the same colors often chosen for the Shelby Ford Mustang, first in the mid 1960s by Carroll Shelby and then by Ford itself a few years later. I believe versions continued at least into 2022, and I suspect may keep going. Thanks for your comments about the hovering hummer. It may not suit everyone but it works for me. I've come to believe in this formula for a successful photo: 1) Get out there every day and take hundreds of shots: if one out of hundreds is a keeper, you succeeded. You've spent nothing om film and developing, got some exercise, and enjoyed the experience. 2) Seek good light and/or weather conditions such as: the morning and evening "Golden Hours" of course; later morning dew drops; the soft complementary light through a slightly overcast sky: dramatic storms; and of course sunrises and sunsets. 3) Photograph what you love, but also break out of your routine to shoot unusual, maybe even unlikely subjects. 4) Learn about the many methods of good composition. 5) Learn the methods available in your photo processing software that give you the results you're after. 6) And have fun! RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Man From Ironbark - 04-20-2025 I love taking photos and enjoy sharing that love with others. Trouble is, one never knows which photo will appeal the most to others. One can only hope that they enjoy your photos as much as you enjoyed taking them. If I had hummingbirds, I'd probably spend much of my time tryng to capture my best photo of them. Along the way there would be boxes full of not the best photos but it is all a lot of fun. One can always try manipulatiing those not so best ones into something a little different. RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Dave - 04-20-2025 And if I had the fascinating, unique flora and fauna that your magical country has, I'd never tire of photographing them. RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Man From Ironbark - 04-20-2025 You get a lot of hits if you search my Flickr for words like flower or plant.
RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Rich - 04-21-2025 Thanks Dave! RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Man From Ironbark - 04-21-2025 I didn't mean to not comment on the lovely color balanced white and blue Chevvy, Rich. ![]() Sorry about that. RE: Weekender April 19-20 - Rich - 04-23-2025 Not to worry Peter, I sometimes miss a photo too, thanks! |
