The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Dave - 02-22-2025 First, I apologize for being AWOL recently. Some medical issues over the past 8 days; one was pretty scary but fortunately after 5 hours in the ER I was told it was a false alarm and not a more serious issue. Under the category of "How to ruin the looks of a fine car with a bad paint job decision", we have this... Easy to find in a large parking lot! Here is one of my favorite cars parked in front of the Palace! RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Rich - 02-23-2025 What a difference a few days make. Tuesday we had a -33F wind chill and today, Sunday it is at 61F. A 94 degree difference! RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 02-23-2025 Tell me Rich, have your metereologists ever recorded such a temperature difference in your lifetime? RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Rich - 02-23-2025 Peter, not at all. This one was counting the wind chill but actual temp was -15F so it was only a 48F degree change. This one was in Spearfish, SD On January 22, 1943, at about 7:30 a.m. MST, the temperature in Spearfish was −4 °F (−20 °C). The Chinook wind picked up speed rapidly, and two minutes later (7:32 a.m.) the temperature was +45 °F (7 °C). The 49 °F or 27 °C rise in two minutes set a world record that still holds. -15 RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 02-24-2025 yes wind chill etc., equals 'feels like' in the weather report.Yet it is responsible for the two minute warming you spoke of. Ambient temperature is a different thing. White Cliffs where I dig opal, holds the greatest temperature range in my state of NSW. From the lowest of -2˚C to the max of 50C. Though that is for the whole day. Hot or cold winds can change all of that quite rapidly. I believe it was the Sirocco that helped LA to burn. RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Dave - 02-24-2025 Harsh temperature ranges guys. MFI, I believe you're thinking of North Africa. Their scirocco winds are hot and humid. California gets Santa Ana winds which are hot and dry, and these do often make our area's wildfires much, much worse. RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 02-25-2025 Santa Ana. Ah yes. RE: The weekender 22/23 February 2025 - Luv2shoot - 02-26-2025 Some might think that yellow car is ugly then others think it is HOT. I have not made up my mind yet, but I agree, it would be easy to spot in a parking lot. I have trouble spotting my white car in a shopping parking lot and have to concentrate on where I parked when I exit my car and walk into a large grocery store, or shopping mall. Besides remembering where I parked, I have to make sure I walk up to the correct WHITE car parked amongst a zillion other white cars. Do you know that the color white is the most popular color for a vehicle? 34% of cars are white. The next popular colors are grey/silver and black. Several times I have walked up to a white car and cannot understand why the car is unlocking as I put my hand on the handle. After a few more tries, I realize, I am trying to get into someone's vehicle that is NOT MINE. DUH! |
