Friday, December 20, 2024 - Dave - 12-20-2024 TGIF Foto Friends Around 3 years ago a neighbor did some work on their house: repainted in mostly white with black and dark gray accents, got a new roof that was dark gray, and added a nice little brick planter in front (also white with dark gray accents). It looked quite nice. I was wondering what flowers they'd choose for the planter, but they chose succulents: a couple of low ones and a number of what look to be Saguaro cactus. The cacti grew well and now are taller than the roof... And here's a look of some of the cacti in the shade from the eaves that burst into multiple flowers... I wish us all a happy, safe, and productive weekend. RE: Friday, December 20, 2024 - Luv2shoot - 12-20-2024 Wow, Dave, that cactus grew that much in Three years? That is amazing for a cactus. And it looks so healthy. It is nice that it flowers. Our party was fun last night. I think there were probably about 20-25 people that attended. Awards were given for our fall Print competition. I did not submit any photos this time. Looking at the submissions, though, I would not have had a chance. We got some good photographers in our club now. The "slide show" of the photographs members sent in was also very good. However, since landscapes and seascapes are not one of my favorite categories, there seemed to be far too many of those to look at. So here is another that I sent in for our party. This is a primitive Excel sheet of LOST & FOUND items taken at the Michigan Central Train Station. I will have to send you a larger photo of the book since this was a close-up, and I wanted to show the details. Hopefully, you can zoom in and see the first three items on the list: A U.S. Army Rain Coat A Brownie Camera A One-Eyed Teddy Bear. It shows the date found, location, and the date delivered to the Lost & Found. I felt a connection to the people that lost those items. It touched my heart in a way. I love museum lighting. I thought it was special and interesting that the book was opened to this page. RE: Friday, December 20, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 12-20-2024 Neat stuff from you both. Dave, Cactii do grow more quickly when watered well or better than they would in the wild. I'm no Cactii expert but I'm unsure whether your cactus is a Saguaro. The ribs seem too far apart. I'm probably barking up a wrong tree, the plant may still be in a juvenile stage. Lorell, a one eyed teddy bear. Some child was estranged. So poignant. RE: Friday, December 20, 2024 - Dave - 12-21-2024 Lorell, you excel at museum photographs, in this case taking a long-forgotten trivial form and making us think about the human stories behind it. Hi MFI. Good point about cactus growth. And you're probably right that these aren't Saguaros. RE: Friday, December 20, 2024 - Rich - 12-21-2024 Dave...WOW! Good growth and looks healthy! Lorell, amazing book,1930! Well photographed! Agree with you all on the connection. Very poignant as Peter said. Make up pictures in your mind of the owners. Would like to develop the film from the camera! I feel for you on the amount of landscape photos. We usually had a category of them once a year. Greetings Peter! |
