October 2024 - Picture October - Dave - 10-12-2024

Show us something that says October in your country, city, or simply in your mind.

It could be a landscape or seascape, flora, Halloween if that's recognized in your area, and scores of other subjects.

A neighbor puts up creative decorations for many of our holidays, and this month it's for Halloween.

Here's my first example...

A year ago, about now I was in Nashville, TN on a motor coach tour. We went to a place called Jack's Pumpkin Glow. Amazing amount of work they did to get it ready.

I was pleased they had Mt. Rushmore since I live in South Dakota!

Best I can do is that in October here, the sun has moved back from its winter position to where it starts beating down all day.
Australians have never really had an interest in Halloween until Big Business from America started marketing it big time here in the past decade.

Pumpkins are for eating. They are also not ripe at this time of year. So, no pumpkins to use.
Nothing about Halloween makes any sense in Australia. We aren't scared of witches here.

Those are some elaborate and skillfully created Halloween items, Rich.

Beautiful photo, MFI.

If my memory is right (an increasingly rare happening) Halloween started hundreds of years ago as a pagan holiday. In the US around the mid 1900s it was a fun thing for young kids.

Then the advertisers got into it and it has become horribly commercialized - just greedy companies chasing after money.

Sometimes I see examples of simply having fun with Halloween displays, such as the neighbor who put together the photos I've posted in this thread. Here's another one taken yesterday afternoon...
